Weekly Course

The Intuition weekly courses are based on a 3 step cycle. These 3 steps work together in conjunction to ensure students obtain the best outcomes. The 3 steps are;

  1. Theory Class: An interactive class where we go through theory and questions.
  2. Homework: Practise questions that are ALL marked to highest standards.
  3. Tutorial: A more personalised learning approach where students learn from their mistakes and build on their knowledge.

Each component is outlined below in more detail.

Theory Classes

Every week commences with a two and a half hour* theory class. We start from the most basic fundamentals and work our way through to the more complex principles. We steer clear from rote learning as much as possible, rather exposing our students to the background/derivation behind each concept and explaining them in a way which can easily be understood.
Each student receives a lesson booklet written in accordance with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus to ensure that every syllabus requirement is covered. These booklets become the student’s personalised notes and provide a comprehensive basis for future revision.

At Intuition, we are huge advocates of classroom interaction and encourage all of our students to actively participate in topical discussions by asking and answering questions. We keep our classes small – the average number of students per theory class is 12 and the maximum is 16 – so that no student goes unnoticed.

All materials are strictly within the realms of the respective NESA syllabus.

* Class lengths are three hours for Mathematics Extension 2 and two hours for Preliminary Mathematics and Year 10 Mathematics.

Homework

Homework is a vital step in our learning cycle as it forces students to test their understanding of the material learnt during theory classes. It’s also a way for us to monitor all of our students and assess whether they need further assistance.

All of Intuition’s homework questions are of a similar style and degree of difficulty to the questions students will encounter in their school assessments and HSC examinations. We even have a ‘challenge’ section so that our students can see what the really hard questions look like – and learn how to answer them.

Each student is given a week to complete their homework. It is then marked by a class tutor who provides necessary feedback for answers that need corrections. Intuition has a strict zero homework mistakes policy which means that all students are required to work on their homework until all answers are corrected and accepted by a tutor.

Tutorials

The final part of the three-step weekly cycle is a 1.5 hour tutorial.Tutorials are an opportunity for students to correct their homework mistakes so that they can, as we like to say, ‘get them down to zero’. It’s a discipline which forces students to identify and avoid common mistakes and understand how to answer challenging questions.

Students are given two weeks from the time they receive their marked homework to correct all their mistakes. If a student is unable to correct all their homework mistakes by the end of the first tutorial, they will be required to attend additional tutorials (provided at no extra cost) until all outstanding mistakes have been corrected.

Tutorials are also a time when students can bring in any additional questions they may have, particularly if they are struggling with school homework. In fact, we encourage students to book extra tutorials during school assessment periods so that they can always stay on top of their work.

Like our theory classes, we deliberately keep our tutorials small. The average number of students per tutorial is 3 and the maximum is 4.
