Less than a year ago, amidst covid we found ourselves consulting engineers on the installation of our new HVAC (Heat Ventilation & Air Con) system. We placed extra emphasis on regulating air quality in each individual room, critical to risk reduction and control of airborne pollutants and viruses.

Our HVAC engineering design includes:

  • Ceiling mounted cassette units in all class, tutorial room(s) and open areas;
  • CO2 sensors and fans supply supplying fresh air into each room/area;
  • Fresh air supply has been provided based on a student population;
  • When each room fan coil is turned on and the population censors are triggered fresh air is drawn into each room. Note this takes place whenever occupancy occur, even if there is only one person in the room.

The system has been designed and installed to ensure compliance with relevant provisions of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Australian Standards (AS). These include;

  • Building Code of Australia (BCA), part F4.5 Ventilation of rooms, NSW Variation F4.5(b). The provision requires a habitable room, admin, shop, factory, workroom, sanitary compartment, bathroom, shower room, laundry and any other room occupied by a person for any purpose must have:
    • natural ventilation complying with F4.6; or
    • mechanical ventilation or air-conditioning system complying with AS 1668.2 and AS/NZS 3666.1, and
  • The existing and additional bathrooms are required to be mechanically ventilated to AS 1668.2-2012.
